The development of our Bushfoods Community garden

In 2016, Selby Community House embarked on a project to re-energise an unutilised garden area. With support from Yarra Ranges Council and community fundraising, The Bushfoods Community Garden was created. Through council and community consultation, the Bushfoods Community Garden was developed with a larger scope for engagement and purpose to create a stronger and more resilient community.

The launch of the garden was a success and a significant day with Aunty Joy present to officialise the opening.  At the launch the Selby Community and Selby Primary School participated in a planting day of the native indigenous plants. These plants were provided by Southern Dandenong’s Community Nursery.

The Bushfoods Community Garden area includes an outdoor art space, a wood fired pizza oven and seating. It aims to provide ongoing educational and social opportunities to encourage community participation in a range of activities and workshops.
